Book Design Process

Sewing the book block

Sewing the book block

To begin binding a book, the signatures must be folded and hole punched before sewing them together. Pictured are the tools needed to punch holes and sew the signatures together, creating the book block. A book block is the inner pages of a book.

Pictured is a book that is sewn and ready for glue application. The stitches are evenly spaced and neat. They interlock with the stitches before them to bring the separate signatures together.

Gluing

The book block is ready to be glued and bound. The tan pieces on the left of the picture provide the structure for the book, while the green cloth covers the tan cloth to make the book pretty.
